Owners and enthusiasts of the vintage Chris Craft
Commander line of fiberglass cruisers are set to
meet August 18-20 for its annual rally. This year's
event will be held at American Marine at the Dubuque
Yacht Basin in Dubuque Iowa. This year's gathering
marks its first time being held along the banks of
the Mississippi River. A record turnout is expected
with more than a dozen examples of these fine
vintage cruisers onsite to appreciate and enjoy.
About the Chris Craft Commander
In 1964, amidst much secrecy, Chris Craft
Corporation unveiled its first entry into the
fiberglass cruiser market at the New York Boat Show
with the 38' Express. The boat was heralded as a
design marvel from the drawing tables of Fred Hudson
and "Mac" MacKerer.
Dick Avery led the design team
at Chris Craft that produced other Commanders
ranging in size from the weekender 27' to the
palatial 60'. These boats are still plentiful today,
and much sought after for their fine workmanship,
seaworthiness and accommodations. They continue to
increase in value as the awareness of their
construction and durability becomes more well-known.
About the Club
The Chris Craft Commander Club got its start in 1999
as a written registry of less than 30 Commanders and
their owners. The club quickly took its mission to
the world wide web where it saw an explosive
increase in membership which now totals well over
700 members worldwide. The club's
current governing
board recently incorporated the group, adopted a set
of bylaws and revamped its
logo and website. More
