We have a 1967 38' Commander with Detroit Diesel 8v53s.  Does anyone have an opinion or suggestion on what kind of oil to use?

Shell Rotella makes one  just for Detroit 2 cycles  I'm sure there are other good oils though

What weight?

SAE 40 - do not use multi-weight or synthetics

I use Rotella straight 40 weight in my Detroit 8V53's and I feel it does a real good job on my old engines. My Mechanic who has been working on Detroit engines for many years said that this is the best way to go.
