CAn anyone direct me to where I can find either a replacement or repair kit for the tach drive on the Port engine (Cummins 370) on a 1974 47. Cable broke, these were not installed by Cummins but by CC at the factory to work with the Glenndeining Sync. Cummins coming up empty, internet no help so far.
A quick google check came up with this site: http://www.texasindustrialelectric.com/speedo.asp
Probably more around, but it looks like they can make up custom cables.
This is a standard Stewart Warner design cable. This has been used on heavy equipment, trucks, agriculture, and marine applications.
The inner drive cable can be replaced without replacing the outer cable shield. Just pull it out. Usually it is one of the ends that fail. If the drive cable failed in the middle and is all frayed, then complete replacement is usually warranted.
Since the cable drive system is so widely used, going to most large truck dealers or repair shops will have the kit and tools to make your cable on the spot to length. There are two different drive tang styles, The most common has a square drive. The other style is a round crimp on piece with a key tab.
