Would You Believe It?? A Stern Drive Commander!!

Back To Member Spotlight Index Page

In January 2009, fellow Commander Club member Laurent Ippolito bought a 1968 model year 31' Commander flybridge. Although 31' Commanders were the most popular of all Commander models with over 500 hulls built, Laurent's boat is very special. If you look at the photos you will no doubt notice the twin stern drives below the swim platform! Laurent writes the drives are powered  by two Volvo V8 gas engines with 200 bhp and a z-drive. The transom has been modified under the platform to accommodate the drives and engine in a level position.

The boat is named Monkey Tree and Laurent goes boating with her at Bassin d'Arcachon, near Bordeaux, France.
