Hi Lee:...Good news & bad news.

I finally found a 27` Commander sedan type which had been sitting for 35 years in a barn with 4 other Chris Craft types & the exterior & interior are like new. I figured that the mechanical systems would require major repair after that level of disuse but even after all the work I explained in the Commander Q&A forum I finally launched this July; but I should have removed the fuel tanks & either replaced or found some magic process to make sure the interiors were not going to plug up the fuel delivery system. How hard is it to pull those tanks? Is there a better way?

Lee, I just watched your talk on electrical. My 37' Roamer is about to be relaunched after a 16 month re-paint in Awlcraft. The flybridge was removed and all of its components disassembled. The painter managed to over spray much of the wiring. Also when the hardtop was painted all of the wires were bundled together. The idiot never de-energized the boat. I happened to come back from lunch a few months ago to find the bundle smoldering. Apparently a sound system wire was grounding out and it caused a meltdown of 4-5 wires. All of the gauges were restored. I have little skill in wiring and I need to find someone to reassemble the bridge components and all of the wiring. Do you have any suggestions? My main goal right now is to get the boat back into the safety and protection of its covered slip on Lake Allatoona, GA. Transport should occur in 2 weeks. Thanks.

PS you and I spoke once about the "oil in coolant issue". It was resolved by changing out the head gasket.

Thanks for the welcome Lee.

I hope to see you all in the Chesapeake soon.  I'm looking at a 1969 Commander 38' currently located in Baltimore that I want to move to DC and fix up.  I'm glad to see there is an active community.

Lee,

Been awhile but I remember you fondly. As you know I do not write often as advice I might need, well lets say I have enjoyed the best for virtually all my years from Dick..

As I write we are in Ludington as part of a week long trip.  Our Commander is the last in the water here in Mecca but still going strong.

Congrats on your new post I know you will do a fine job.

Stay well, JW
