blades on her. I am sure it was the guy in Toledo and he was probably trying to increase cruise speed. In actuality the wheels are to tall and it causes slip. So it is actually slower that she would be with 22x22 which they were all shipped with. It does have stainless shafts and a bronze extra one in the bilge.
That about wraps her up. Nice boat. NOT and boathouse queen.
She has 3 a/c units. I cant stand to be hot. It does keep it cool at the dock. Below it is not fancy, just comfortable. I put a new fridge in 3 years ago and they just do not last. I am putting another one in this year. I am also in the process of putting some indirect LED's in the salon. Very subtle and no big deal.
I also upon purchase threw the monomatic heads overboard. I cannot stand those things. I added holding tanks and put in new manual flush heads. Again, not fancy but they always work. The aft head has a 46 gallon tanks and the forward one has a 15.
The generator is an Onan 6.5. Did not work when I got it. I lived without it until last year. It was my project. Rebuilt the fuel pump. Same with carb. Rebuilt the circulating pump with bearings and all. Then modified the intake pump with a newer Jabsco since parts and impellers for the Onan pump were ridiculous. This conversion came off the CCCC forum and works great. It worked all last summer and never skipped a beat. I do not use it in the demand mode so I have no clue if that works or not. I only run two of the A/c's off of it and it seems to run them fine.
There are NO electronics. I am an old chart guy so nothing fancy. I use an I pad and Navionics and get anywhere with the compass and chart. The old spinner depth finder still functions when you give it a tap:)
Externally she is all still gel coat. I wish I could say she shines like a gem, but that is only if I get to buff her. Hull sides are very good. Cabin top is hard to keep shinny. Gel rubbed thru in a few small places, but generally all there. Toe rails are fairly weathered. Still look good when treated but, missing bungs and open grain in quite a few places. Canvas is nice, no camper, just convertible and aft curtain. She was ordered with the optional CC aft seat. Also, somewhere along the line she got some railings around the aft. I am not wild about them, but they are sturdy and look like they match all other railings. There is no platform on her. I can tell she was originally equipped with davits, but they were removed and there is no visible scars from them.
I love this boat. The only thing that bugs me is it is the slowest 42 I have ever seen. Somewhere along the line somebody put 22x24 4

I just love to tinker and when I can, I try to improve how things look. When I switched the cooling to open cooling, I spiffed up the engines. I put new stickers on the valve covers and just cleaned it all up. The underside and outboard side underneath do not look like that. Here is what I know. She was sent to upstate New York in June of 1970. Shortly thereafter she went to Gross Point Michigan where she spent a few years. During those years she was named PACO. Then she was sold to a gentleman in Toledo Ohio and was docked at Toledo Beach Marina. At this time she was renamed Duchess. I used to watch her there for many years as I kept my sport boats there in the rack facility. About 5 years ago a buddy sent me a craigslist ad for a 42 and low and behold it was the same boat. She was all original and had been sitting for several years. I bought her and started to get her ready to bring to the Huron area. After getting her in the water I discovered that the port engine had 2 bent push rods and two stuck valves.
I pulled the head and had it freshened up. Put it back together and brought her home. During the trip I experienced over heating on the Starboard engine and fought that battle for the rest of the first season. I decided that the closed cooling was a possible cause and was also suspect of the risers. I went on a search for all the parts to convert it over and found 4 good risers. I did the conversion and have never had a cooling issue since.
We use the boat all summer. I run her very easy. About 1800-2000 RPM's and about 8- 10 mph. It just works for me and since I am the captain, my family has to put up with it. The LAST thing I want to do is scatter a 427. I have installed electric fuel pumps and regulators. Rebuilt the carbs and had both alternators rebuilt with new regulators. I kept them original because i wanted to retain the ammeters on the dash. All new impellers and bearings in the pumps. I have not run a compression test. They just run good. They will turn up if you push them. Also, as soon as I got it home, I put pertronix conversions in to get rid of the points. She gets the oil changed every fall before lay-up and the trans too. They are p-44's.
Inside she is pretty original. White formica and no alterations. The headliner is ok but she is getting old and the windshield really needs to come off due to leaks. Pretty common on the 42's.
