The previous owner had a mechanic replace a Malory electronic distributor with a Sierra unit on my Port 350Q. I found on both engines the timing was severly retarded. Both distributors are one tooth off and advanced to the limit of the clamp…. A little short of the advance mark on the flywheel. I have the starboard engine with the optical Mallory running well. The port engine with the Sierra ,magnetic, starts and runs well up to about 3,000 rpm then there is a rattle, maybe detonation?? The advance plate down in the unit was loose and the screws tightened with the plate rotated hard counter clockwise. Does anyone have experiance with this distributor?? Where the plate should be?
