My port starter began grinding and not engaging. After much to-do to get it out I find it is a Delco Remy 1108417. Anyone know of a replacement starter model?
I found a starter for my Crusader 5.7 at (local to me) Auto Electric Service in Norfolk VA. Although it doesn’t say ‘coast guard approved’ on the starter itself, they assured me it is. It’s also a much smaller body but has gearing to spin the flywheel as necessary.
Harper’s Marine is showing replacement starters in their catalog

Harper’s email bounces back I will try to call them
Here is a photo of the broken starter. I am told this can happen from a backfire while trying to start. Time to find TDC and engrave a line.

Try calling by phone - that e-mail address looks really old. not sure msn.com is even around anymore.
I found a mechanic, 72 years old, that knows the 350/327 Q. He found a new Delco Remy starter for my engine. I will ask him where he found it
