I would like to lnow from those with this model Commander what diesel engines your running and how they sit on the water. Stern down, level?? My boat has a pair of fresh 350Q engines. They are newly rebuilt and the boat runs well with the original specified props. The boat is like new factory condition and I feel it worth while to invest in repowering with something that would be more fuel efficent, quiter, and possibly better performance. The boat is hull #1 out of the Chattanoga plant so there is a little less room fore and aft in the engine room then later production boats. Last weekend we were running 17 kts at 3400 rpm , but really loud to my ear.

John, I don’t have that model, have a ‘75 30TSF, but repowered with 2 Yanmar 4LV250 diesels. I spent a lot of time looking at the options and settled on those. They were nearly a perfect fit (had to modify the covers) and the weight was comparable. Was also able to keep the original shaft size. I also installed a new/larger aluminum fuel tank.
I couldn’t be happier. They are reasonably quiet, very frugal with the fuel and have great power.
Steve can you tell me what your performance numbers are? What props are you turning? The helm insturmentation is classic on my boat but I believe I can adapt the helm panel instruments by either using the same senders or senders with the same ohm resistance?
Captain John ...... Consider installing under all the engine hatches and stern hatch the product from Sound Down to lower the engine noise . You can also reduce engine noise by replacing the exhaust y - pipe crossover and connecting 90 degree elbow with exhaust temp rated frp from Centek Indestries . That product "will reduce" engine noise and weight compared to the factory galvanized pipe on your engines now which may be corroded in places now anyway . Those items are a much lower cost than converting to the smudge pot diesels which would be a total rehab to the studs to convert on your 31 sedan . www.sounddown.com & centeckindustries.com

John, the props are 4 blade 18x19.
On a run yesterday, at 3000 rpm, she did 23 kts and 19 gph fuel burn. The load was 70%. The motors are about 3600 rpm at WOT. My fuel tank is 230 gal and it’s almost full at the moment. Guessing the boat is at about 14000#.
I installed all the new Yanmar gauges and don’t know how it works to keep the classic helm setup. The 4LV’s are pretty great motors.
