Hello all new Mickey here on the forum. I’ve been around & owned boats all my life but don’t know much about Chris Crafts so any guidance & info is very much appreciated. The boat in question looks to be in the pictures very clean & taken care of. I am told the current owner ( 3 Yrs) is a diesel mechanic. All that being said here goes.
I am looking at the above boat in a day or two. It is a little bigger then I was looking for but it would work for me.
It has twin 8-53s w/about 750 original hrs so I’m told. I believe all the tanks (fuel, water, holding) are original as is the fresh water system & plumbing & bath rm’s. I am concerned about the tanks & plumbing. I would appreciate any thoughts ,comments & input.
Thanks for your input

Hello Jerry,
We purchased a 1968 47' Commander five years ago which was in good shape, but also needed a fair amount of work in upgrades. The fuel tanks and water tank are in good shape, but at the same time we're planning to upgrade the fuel tanks in the near future.
The fresh water lines are all copper and are in use and in good shape at this point. We do have to upgrade the fresh water system as far as drawing off the tank or bringing on water straight from the dock. The fresh water pump and manifold system are original on board and should be replaced.
As far as the heads are concerned, when we purchase the boat, they were original as well, (direct discharge overboard) so I would have a good look at that system. We upgraded to a vacu-flush system with a holding tank installed in the forward bilge area. We also upgraded the air conditioning units on board. A project worth every penny in the hot and humid mid-Atlantic region.
Even with all this work, as well as future projects on the slate, we love this boat and are more than happy in bringing her back to the level of excellence she deserves.
Please let me know if I can help with anything else.
Thanks, Michael Rodolico
I'm not one knowledgeable about the tanks - other than they are old, and you may consider replacing at some point - but there are many of us out there with original tanks (water and fuel). Unless you take a borescope with you, that'd be hard to guess on.
As for the plumbing... unless things have been changed (or sort of repaired over the years), all of the water lines will be copper, and should be ok. Find out a bit more about the heads... how old, etc. while you're checking it out.
if you can get some pictures and come back to the group with them, some of us might be able to weigh in a bit more.
