Chris craft 307V8 crusader starts cold every day like a champ. Turn off and turn back on OK runs fine. If I turn it off at idle and wait 3-5 Minutes and try to start, I get caberator back fire only. Giving gas does not help, more back fires. Come back the next day and it starts like it should. Changed oil, changed fuel filter ( it was Clean in the bowl - No water). I not tried on the same day, hours later to see if it starts but over 15 seems to be fine. Any thoughts out there from mechanics.

Take a look at your choke, is it fully open when you try to restart.
Look with a flashlight when you shutdown, is gas pouring down the throat of carburetor.
Float level too high or needle and seat not fully closing.
Also check inside distributor cap, condensate?
I am with Rob. Carb first. Choke first then leaks like he said. Is it a two or four barrel. Will it run and carry a load for longer periods if you don’t shut it off?
