I have almost all the interior mahogany stripped and have just pulled out the side door screen assembly. I have never used it in the 19 years of ownership and am thinking above removing it and filling in. Thoughts??
Don't do it! It's one of the cooler features of the 42, and one we constantly get comments on when people see it. We also use it constantly... if we are out, all the windows are open, as well as the side door with the screen up. Great ventilation, and a huge area for some extra air.
Leave it. You have bigger fish to fry. We brought our 47 up to MI from FL and my assumption was that because it was a FL boat a PO removed the sliding windows in the main cabin and installed permanent ones. While it was done very well inside and out, along with significant work and dollars, we get little air flow and have to run the AC more than we prefer on warm days. They used very nice mahagony but of course it has rotted in places and I have spent more time than I would like making repairs inside and out.

We use ours all the time. It’s not in the way. Like Chris says. Leave it. It will keep the palmetto bugs out. 🤪
