Good evening , on my 31 sedan , my dad and I took it out on the lake yesterday. We were running half throttle ( throttles we’re straight up ) tachs said 4K rpm , and I know that’s not correct. My question , to get these boats to plane , do you really have to pour the wood to them at 3/4 throttle or more to make them break over and plane ? Props are correct factory size and new , and bottom job is also fresh . This is a sedan with twin 350q engines and original heavy kohler Gen set . So it is rear heavy.
Thanks guys.
Something is amiss and this will require more info. Tachs shouldn't be reading that high at 1/2 throttle unless the trans are slipping. (Check fluid) Most commanders cruise comfortably on plane at about 31-3200. Just before the 4bbls kick in. One other thing is faulty tach readings. It's very possible that one of these two items are your issue. Hope this will help you.
If you have tabs on your, push that bow down. My 31 also squats when getting out of the hole. I'm on plane in the low 3's as Lee stated
@Lee Dahlen my throttle levers are vertical with the tach “saying” 4K rpm , so that’s half throttle. It is an aftermarket single dial tach with 2 needles , so chances are it’s not right. I still have more travel on the throttles . Should I try and push it further on the throttles and see what happens ?
@richard catalani i tried the tabs at that point , they work but the bow was still at the sky . Should I have pushed the throttles harder , like to 3/4 or full throttle ? Then backed off once it breaks over ? This is sedan 31 so it’s very rear heavy with fuel , generator and 2 350Q engines .
Might be a good starting point to rig up a known good tach to confirm your true rpms.
Also has your existing tachs ohm settings been adjusted for a V8 ?
