Can anyone shed any light on when this badge was used?
Do you have it on your boat? What model and year?
It has a star and 3 vertical stripes in yellow and the boat length in white letters on a red field. It appears that the graphic represents the insignia of a Navy Commander.
When was it used and what models was it used on?
@Jim Rivas seems like something you might know? 🤔
Does anyone know which badge was used on a 1973 36
foot tournament fisherman?
Whitney, your boat model may not have had one.
@Whitney Pillsbury It never had one. We would have kept it and refurb.
Those are the same badges on my 1973, Commander 410.
Does anyone no if there are reproduction name plates out there?
David Bibeau -- https://www.commanderclub.com/vendors then select Nameplates under Topic or Subject
@David Bibeau in my search I could not find the ‘styled in fiberglass” badges, those don’t seems to exist anywhere- chrisparts.com is out of them and reports that the foundry went out of business.
I was however able to find the later commanders badges with the yellow and red numbers only in 42 length (so you have to make your own numbers). I think I found them on eBay.
The Commander Badge you're referring to sounds like a distinctive insignia indeed. From what I know, this badge was often used in the past to signify a certain level of command or achievement, and it's interesting to see it applied to boats!
Regarding its use on boats, the badge typically featured a star and three vertical stripes in yellow, with the boat length displayed in white letters on a red field. This design seems to symbolize a naval rank, which is consistent with the insignia of a Navy Commander.
As for the specific models and years when this badge was used, it would be best to consult historical records or manufacturer archives related to the boats in question. If anyone here has this badge on their boat or more detailed information, your insights would be greatly appreciated!

Whitney, how is your boat coming along?
Scott
@Scott Blewett i'm not where I'd thought I'd be, unfortunately I bought a boat with a bad port engine (that was reported to be "rebuilt") and I'm having to pull it and REBUILD it. I'll keep you posted! I'm also going to repitch the props when its out of the water and maybe add trim tabs but maybe not (since I got the built in tabs working) I might wait another season to rule out the efficiency of the built in tabs. But hopefully by next season I'll be up and running.
That too bad, this summer i was down for 3 weeks, had to replace o rings and head gaskets on my port engine...coolant leak.
I extended my tabs and made a big difference and removed the old mech..system
Whitney, our 1967 42 had badges like the one you show. I liked the "Styled" badge better, so I swapped out this year. Of course, I will keep the originals just in case... but... at least in 1967, first run of the 42's... we had that type.
@Chris Orphal curious where you sourced the "styled" badges?
Back when I had my 35, I purchased two new ones from Jim & Bob (LPX, now ChrisParts.com) at a rendezvous. I replaced the "faded" ones on my 35, but held onto them because I actually think the originals were more "crisp" in the lettering.
