Anybody here done this conversion?
It seems that a 3/4" spacer is required to clear some linkage.
I saw one review where the guy claimed that they halved his fuel consumption. I doubt that, but I would not deny that there are fuel savings with a modern carb.
Edelbrock lists these as marine carbs with no EGR ports.
A bit pricy at $600 each.
What engine??? There are discussions in the CCCC Archives-Superdisc regarding spacer on Q engines.
I have them on my 350Qs, easy swap. Tried cutting the linkage that was hitting the valve cover, the linkage on the other side still hit. I ended up adding 3/4" spacers.
The carbs came with the EGR port not drilled and tapped. I had another 1409 carb drilled and tapped for the hose barb, simple. It was easier to drill and tap the spacers instead of the carbs, and the original hose fits nice.
You will need a vacuum cap to cover the nipple that normally attaches to the fuel pump overflow, that non-marine fuel pumps don't have. I ended up replacing the mechanical pumps with electric, and ran the vent line from the carb to the pump.
yes, 350q's

350 Q Options?
Reply by C E Caron on December 15, 2017 at 10:36amTim, On the 1409 conversion to a 350QThey are missmatch SQ bore and will need a adapter spacer.. if not the butterfly's will impinge on the intake openings as well the linkages on the choke and throttle cam will have to be delt with so as they don't hit anything tru full movement. Usually the block spacer will give you enough clearance.Just got done installing a new 1409 on our 73 Lancer 350Q. Rather straight forward swap but you will need a spacer block as well a hose barb for the PCV hose to hook up. I drilled an taped the front of the spacer block.. if you look you can find ones already fitted out but more $$.World of difference and performance..didn't even have to set the idle or lean out mix screws right out of the box it runs great.. will putting a few hours on it an then will adjust as needed.

350 Q Options?
Jim Frens on December 15, 2017 at 10:50amCE, do you happen to have the part number for the spacer? Does that come from Edelbrock?

Reply by C E Caron on December 15, 2017 at 10:57amI went to Auto Zone.. was a blister pack universal kit.. like $26.00.Also the gas gauge I installed was Amazon.. $5.00Assorted brass fittings at Ace Hdw. .. $20.003/8" universal brake line for fuel line install from pump/gauge bent to fit... $4.00About a $50.00 parts kit install.. if you don't want the gauge an fittings can save about $25.00.. but I like being able to keep tabs on my old mechanical fuel pump and allows me to be sure I am NOT over pressurizing the new 1409.. they don't like much past 5-6psi. stock pump works just fine @5.5lbs.

350 Q Options?
Jim Frens on December 15, 2017 at 11:10amI wondered what that gauge in the photo was.Maybe the spacer can be shaved down? Or does it really need to be that tall? I have an inch or so extra under my hatch, above the flame arrestor. In your photo it looks taller, but according to Edelbrock (saw your post there, too, Tim - Spacer looks like part number 2696) it says the spacer is 0.85 inch, or just under 7/8".

Reply by C E Caron on December 15, 2017 at 11:42amYou can buy shorter ones.. like 3/4" tall.. all depends on the throw of your butterfly to clear the intake underneath while operating.. I went with the 1" because I wanted the PCV fitting in the front to use my existing set up.Or, if you have access to a CNC machine or know someone, you can custom make whatever you want in size and angles you need... I had head room after I put a divot in the underside of motor cover for the spark arrestor stem and nut.. was about 1/3" too tall when done.. no big deal.
