Please does anyone know where I can buy a new camshaft for a 427 engine? Looking for original/equivalent Chris Craft part. New not used. LH rotatiopn, 1969 engine. Existing aftermarket cam has worn down lobe. Thanks.
Captain Dave ...... What type & brand of oil were you using in your engine that wiped out the cam lobe ? What was the zinc content in the oil read as " parts per million " How many hours were on that oil before the camshaft issue ? Try contacting Total Performance in Harrision Twp . Mich for sourcing another camshaft for the 427 or Roush Industries in Mich also . Those operations speak 427 at a very top level of knowledge .
This same problem occurred 10 yrs ago (approx 150 hrs ago) and marina mechanic installed new Comp cam. I think it was the same lobe, too. Since then I’ve always used a zinc oil additive per instructions on container. Brand name “Camshield”. It’s advertised to prevent lobe wear. Oil used is Valvoline conventional 10-W40. Oil is changed every year with Camshield added.
For this repair engine will go to rebuilder for more thorough inspection and diagnosis. Shall I upgrade to roller lifters to make sure this never happens again?
You should be able to find an NOS standard rotation marine cam. They are much more abundant than reverse rotation.
If you can't find one, they were pretty much the same as the 390 PI cam, which most cam manufacturers offer something similar.
I suspect you may have a lifter bore out of round. These days oil and cam/lifter quality get blamed for everything, which is justified most of the time. Not all engine builders are thorough and lifter bores are easily overlooked.

it’s extremely expensive to get a roller for the counter rotation engine.
Thankfully the current problem is in the std rotation side. The counter rotation side seems ok with 2000 hrs on the cam. Thanks for the info.
