For those of you who have a 31' Express with AC, what size BTU unit do you have on your boat? I'm figuring 6,000 should be enough (& I'm in MS), but the 9,000 units are about the same price (MarinAire). What say ye? My boat lived on Lake Superior its whole 55-year life - no need for AC up there!
Thanks
Check the cfm of the two units. For the Ocean Breeze units the cfm of the 9000 btu is more than 1.5 times the cfm of the 6000 btu and circulation will make you happier and don't forget that hull isn't fiberglass insulation😎.
I had a 10K BTU marine air on my 31 express, in Maryland. On hot humid days it would struggle to keep up, you could feel the humidity was lower but temp would be high, until the sun started to set, it was great for sleeping at night, it could freeze you out.
Are you planning on one unit covering the enclosed vee berth as well as the main cabin? If so I would install either a 10k or 12k. Make sure IF you are using existing ductwork the size will match the unit. If you’re installing new ductwork be sure to pay close attention to size specs. We once had a client upgrade from a 12 to a 16 on existing ducts and because it was too small the unit would ice up because the duct could not move the cold air away from the unit as designed. Hope this helps!
