Hi everybody,
I have an issue with the central fuel tank in my 422 commander. ... There is a leakage from the bottom and I don't know what to do with this.
Also I understand that all 3 fuel tanks are made by aluminium.
What we have to do if I want to remove the tanks for cleaning ?
Thanks
Dimitris
I'm not familiar with the locations and sizes of the tanks in that model. My assumption is like most all boats the tanks go in early then are buried with everything else. All the cleaning won't help a leak. First thing I would do is isolate the fuel then drain it. Leaking diesel in the bilge is a smelly mess. Once that is done you will have to start cutting or removing items in the way to get it out or find the source. If you are lucky it could be some isolated corrosion that can be addressed temporarily. Best of luck.
Dear Michael,
Many thanks for your reply.
In this boat there are 3 tanks . The middle one is inside the engine room in the bottom and it is rather difficult to remove it.
Seems the only option to start cutting either the tank or the boat....
How about inserting a bladder in the tank?
Thanks for your reply.
What you mean bladder ?
I am from Greece and although I know the meaning of the word, I don't understand what you mean in this instance.
You mean to put the bladder inside in the tank and use the bladder as tank ?
Thanks.
Dimitris
Sorry . I forgot to mention that it is a 1989 model.
Yes. Search Amazon for ‘fuel bladder’.
A custom or appropriately sized bladder is a possibilty. You would have to open up the tank to put it in and I assume there is at least one baffle in it that would need to be cut out. Any sharp edges have to be removed. No matter what you do there is a lot of work ahead. Guessing you have diesels.
Hi Michael,
Thanks for your reply .
Yes it is diesel .
I believe that it will be finally easier to cut and remove the tank and install the bladder directly into the boat keel or might be a better idea to install to smaller plastic tanks which will be also easier to remove them if needed in the future.
Thanks again.
I am taking this opportunity to wish you all a happy NEW YEAR !!!
Dimitris
Happy 2025 to you! I'm not familiar with that model but could the central tank not be fuel but be sewage? This is the case for several other models and is not an uncommon problem, while corrosion of fuel tanks would be less frequent. Is the perforation from external or internal origin?
Good morning Timothy.
It is fuel Tanks. There is also a sewage tank in the middle of the boat as well as a Fresh Water Tank which is in front.
I have not identify yet the leakin area of th tank but certainly it is from the underneath area as there is the boat blilges also.
