Generally speaking . . .
Working on modifying a trailer to comfortably hold my 1959 27 footer. Full bunk support along the rear 12 ft of chine and 18ft along both sides of the skegg as close as possible to the skeg both for support and to help guide the boat onto the trailer are currently in the works.
The question is… Are the bunks along either side of the Scagg is close to the keel of the vessel as possible good enough support in the opinion of the group… Or does it need to have the skeg resting on something?
Thanks!
12 feet along the chine and 18 feet near the keel is probably more than enough support.
Beinga 1959 I'm assuming you have a mahogany hull and I'm my opinion I would not place bunks super close to a skeg.
I like to land inner bunks directly under the inboard stringers .
Having bunks up close to the skeg also can get a little hairy when retrieving the boat on a steep ramp. If the boat loads cockeyed you may damage the skeg .
If you'd like some keel support it's best done much more foward in the hull not far from the gripe.
