Hi I have a ChrisCraft 1988 Aerosport with two 350 chevys and when I put my starboard motor in reverse its making a grinding noise, any ideas? (my mechanic thinks the bolt may have come lose in the housing). I read in another post that bad spark plugs could cause this?

Thanks in advance.
If you have Paragons they are noisy in reverse. The rattle at low idle is likely the dampner plate. Thjey can get noisier with wear or timing issues. If you have a bolt loose I would doubt they will last long. Also the V drives can be hard to find.
Thanks Michael, how do I know if they are paragons? Can they be replaced in the slip?
The transmission will have a ID tag on it. If not send pics. They can be pulled while in the water. Depending on access it may or may not involve moving engines. I am not familiar with your boat.
I met a really amazing guy who has a 90 foot boat and he came out and listened to my boat as I put it in gear and he said it sounds fine, I think it was because I had the hatches opened, but now it just sounds like the linkage engaging. He did say on the starboard motor the timing was a bit off as the motor would shut off when it was idling. He suggested I put one of those magnetic dip sticks in the transmission that will collect anything in there.
