Following is an e-mail I received from Captain Rick over at the Chris Craft Catalina club. It's about a boat naming contest and the possible inclusion of your boat in a new book about boat names authored by Joy & Chris Smith. They're looking for some Commanders, so they came to the right place ! We grow 'em here :-)
I just wanted to run something past you. I started a forum a little over a year ago as the internet was lacking a home for Catalina owners. So, Chriscraftcatalinaclub.com came to life, we now have over 1,000 members and it seems to be growing daily.
I have a unique contest going and I thought I'd let you know about it as some of your members may have interest. We are having a name contest, post a picture of your transom with the story on how your name came to be. So, it's fairly simple. We kicked it off yesterday and it will run though fall giving people plenty of time to take great photo's.
Joy and Chris Smith are doing the judging for the best names, the top 3 will get a copy of their book which is called "Transoms, Painting Names on History".
They've had much success with the book, so they are writing a follow up. Joy said she'd use some of our better entrants, so, not only do they have a chance of winning a book from the original Chris-Craft family, they can possibly have their Commander and the story behind the name of their boat in the follow up book.
There is no cost to the forum or to join the contest. I think it would be neat to have some Commanders and Catalina's in the next book. Thanks for your time, here is a link to the contest to check it out. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks! Rick
And while you are at it, why don't you kill two birds with one stone and tell our PR-chair Pam Sorensen about the name of your boat as well. She recently made an appeal to all members to to submit name stories for possible inclusion in future editions of Styled in Fiberglass.
