Happy holiday season Commander Club  My boat is being sanded and prepped for interior refinish

This grasscloth type of covering/wallpaper lines the v berth shown here, and also the inside of the hull where the dinette has been removed

Its dirty and moldy and needs cleaning.  I have not touched it yet so thought I’d see if anyone has tackled it with a cleaner and what worked  I’m always nervous with old fiber and bleach.......

While we’re at it......see the little ladder there?  Anyone know where that is meant to attach?

I think you have the same material as in my 36TF .. Over time I have cleaned it with just about every thing imaginable and nothing so far has damaged it-- I have used stuff one buys for mold, auto upholstery cleaner, bleach solution, etc. I have not used purple power ( although it might work well--but would try small spot first and rinse very well). Also have not used muratic acid (joke--wouldnt try it). Have no idea on the ladder--

I believe the ladder is a removable swim platform boarding ladder??

Hi Missy. Bob here south of you in Portland. I have the same wall treatment in my for cabin of my 1967 42. I would try white vinegar with a scrub pad or simple green. That should do the trick. . Good luck. and Happy Holidays.

Thanks for all the responses, and thanks for the chat Tim.

I started with soap and water which got 80% of the muck off. Simple Green and a scrub brush got the balance.

I only have the v berth left to do. Al, you are correct, the stuff is bullet proof. It is paper, as I can see at the top hidden edge. But boy it is tough!  As with all things......they just don't make stuff like they used to.

I have looked everywhere on this boat and swim platform for a connection for this ladder with no luck. Tim suggested an installation of hinges and I think I will look into it.  Lots of laughs have been had over mom getting back into the boat from the water......

Thanks all!
