Hello I have a 64 38' commander first generation fiberglass born with 431 Lincoln engines and I need to locate a exhaust manifold for my port engine? Anyone know where I could find parts n the manifold? Thanks Jamie

Even after the work is done to get it looking nice, it will take you years to sell that boat, if you can sell it at all. Most likely you will spend $10k or $15k to sell it for $10k. It has engines that it’s common knowledge you can’t get parts for, and nobody is going to buy it other than at a giveaway price factoring in the cost of a repower. That’s the exact reason you’re getting it for free, and you’re talking about fixing everything but the problem.

If the boat had 427’s or 454’s, it would already have sold to somebody years ago and you wouldn’t be getting it for free. Trust me on this one, you’re going to end up stuck with it. A flip of anything has to be something saleable. A boat with engines that you can’t get parts for is not a hot commodity. This model isn’t high on anybody’s liveaboard wish list because of the v berth configuration and lack of a stall shower which would rule it out for most people.

This is one of those deals where free is too expensive unless you have the money to repower it. If you’re willing to repower, you could make some money. But nobody’s going to touch a boat with 431 Lincolns in it with their ex wife’s 10 foot pole.

Hey Jamie,

a few years later - I'm curious about what you ended up doing with your commander  ?

cheers

marc
