Before I get down to the boat tonight and mess something up, what's the procedure for replacing the oem engine mounted fuel filter on a 350Q?  I see what looks like a clamp at the top of the canister. Do you loosen that and the canister drops out, or twist the canister, or ?

Thanks in advance. By the way, I found these part numbers for replacement elements:

oem AC Delco GF173

Wix 33271

Napa 3271 or 23271

Well, now I know what the process should be. Remove clamp, spin canister to the left to unscrew it, replace element and gasket, reinstall canister and clamp. I took off the clamp but the canister didn't want to spin, so I removed the entire assembly to see how to open the canister.

It didn't fix my poor running issue, so next step is to check spark arrestor, dist. cap and rotor (they were new middle of last season), and finally try some carb cleaner. And if all that doesn't work, a new carb will be installed.

check to make sure there are no cracking or scorch marks on the cap.

im looking for the canister as mine has a leak at the bottom. im told the short one 2 inches long are no longer available.

Good Morning Jim

Just a thought on fuel filter replacement. Many of our carbs have a filter at the point where the fuel line enters. This is forgotten by most of us until we rebuild the carb. This is the carcass of an AFB.

Thanks, Nat. Just saw your post (no email alert).
