The Missouri, the Mississippi and Illinois are in flood. This is the big news, the real news is that their tributaries generally are also in flood! Boating season is stalled in the mid-west and that is a major problem for many of us Commanders. A small reflection on our harbor locale: We are officially part of the City of West Alton, MO. West Alton faces a voluntary evacuation, the route I usually take to our harbor passes 15 miles of very productive bottom land, not unusual for land near our harbors. This land is not cultivated yet either due to rain or flooding. Two small tourist $$ dependent towns are isolated due to flooded highways, not rural roads, this just in my view, add the many small and mid-sized businesses in this drainage that are affected. The Quad-Cities are not making news in a favorable manner. Pam and Chris, how is the upstream contingent? Large and small towns' populations near these rivers and tributaries are suffering either from flooding or isolation and... I can't enjoy my Commander one more year! It doesn't lessen my discomfort but it changes my perspective.....some.
Best wishes to those many thousands in the "Zone"
Could have been worse but still there was about 10" of water in the building
Mike, the harbor is still open for business as appears in Quimby's
