Stairs Question
HI All,
Im going to need Stairs/Steps to get on our 47 commander from the Dock to Aft deck, FInger piers are too small.
I measured water line to deck , Approx 4 1/2 feet,? Sound about right? and does anyone have one to sell, Or have a lead on where to get a used one? Im already on the sites looking..
Or if someone has built them, SPecs??

We used a 3 step until last year. The water went up again so I built a base out of 2x8. Lake Mi is supposed to go up again. Five steps is a lot so stability will be a concern. Obviously rails are required for anything two or more.

I would recommend a ramp with a landing at deck height running parallel to your transom . I built one on our dock for our side entrance on our 42' but we had 36" fingers to work with. Lot easier to pull a cart or ice chest up than stairs.

I built this for my 45 Commander,
1 sheet 3/4" exterior plywood, 8- 2x4's, a few stair treads and some 1" EMT for the rail. (Lowe's)
Screw it down to the dock, it's pretty solid,I enter by the side rail of the boat.
Back side is open and I screwed a 2X4 across inside and slide the outboard motor for the dingy in, lock the mounting screws like when it on the dingy and its out of sight and weather.

Our docks were pretty high. Not anymore. Lake MI water levels are at record levels and tearing bluffs and docks up.

JOHN, Whats the Height?? I was thinking of using Stringers already cut,(HD,Lowes) just add the steps and support??

JOHN, How high are each step? What did you cut them too? do you have Side pics? Sorry for all the questions, Trying to figure it out, IM not a carpenter!!!,,lol

Glad you like it we are very happy with the way they work.
Steps are a standard 9" rise 4 steps up to platform. I have more pictures and will post them.
They are on another computer.

These are the best pictures I have.
I think with the tread the rise is @ 10" and top of platform is @ 40" its almost even with the deck from the dock.
Our marina has floating fingers that are 4' wide and higher than average out of the water.
