Saving commanders one by one!

My husband was a cop and retired early last year to be dad, homework police and to rescue Commanders!  He started his own boat business and he does all the work (except engines).  He works on everyone elses boats when it's nicer out and in the winter he concentrates on ours.  He had a 38ft Commander in Lk St Clair before he owned the Connie and he always loved it.  (we have a 35ft 1958 CC Constellation too-HIS boat and she is the other woman!)

We got DMS a couple years ago and she was a real hard case for sure!  Brian is convinced the boat hates him (because of the other woman!)  Im getting convinced too that she's not going to be happy until we replace every single part to which we are well on our way.  She was on the hard for 10 yrs, bad engines, totally rotted interior... not good.  But we knew all that and accepted the challenge and dont let us lie to ya, it's been great fun.

We have another one in target range when DMS is ready to find another family.  Maybe another year or so.  Just as we get all the bugs out and have her all pretty, it will be time.  They arent making any more of them and Brian has the skills.... we feel like he was made to do this.  People at our yacht club think we are totally nuts but we understand what we are doing.  Yes we will break down, stuff wont be right for a while.   That's ok, it's part of the journey.

Moving along. Hardware and windows

Brian has been making progress between paid boat jobs. Windows are all in and it's been a varnish factory in the basement.he has the Bosens post all in and framed, Windows in and framing mostly done. Exterior hardware found and on. He picked up the porthole Windows today from our friend Mike Klein who has a custom paint shop. He had them sandblasted and painted. Stay tuned!

55 Commander! Our dream to be realized

Well, we finally dropped off the check and are now the new owners of a 1970 55ft Commander!  We eventually plan to live aboard and we had been thinking about buying a large commander (47ft) and start working on it to make it ours.  We had heard from Lee Dahlen and Frances Rose of a 55ft in Harrison Township that was in a state that would be perfect for us.  Engines and exterior great but interior in need of a Brian Stone renovation.  (PERFECT)   So, up we went and fell in love.  It is in a…

Hi Dawn, Happy to chat anytime. We were indoors next to a 55' in Bay City all last winter. I'm almost done the first pass of the interior and will run through it again to clean up loose ends this spring/summer. The helm is planned for Winter 2018/2019
